This is a game other games strive to be.Extremely tight controls, a decent love story, and fantastic level design bundled under a neat little bow of good art direction. Well worth picking up on sale for the cost of a snack, and still a decent value when bought full price. Oh, the soundtrack is dope too.It's aged for quite a few years and it's still wrinkle free. As good today as it was back day one, I have yet to be as gripped by a platformer as I was by Super Meat Boy.Mild disclaimer of it getting really hard on the later levels, with no difficulty setting.. One of the most difficult and challenging platformers in the market, and has been for a while now. This game does so many things well as a platformer. The game is designed with player convenience in mind, especially when it comes to ameliorating frustration. You may die over and over again, but when you do, the game disregards already-seen cutscenes and dialogue so you can get back into the fray without delay. It also avoids looping music upon death so you don't get annoyed at the amazing sountrack. This is further improved by fast-paced gameplay and short levels. Good game design, check.By far the most attractive part of the game is the soundtrack. Danny Baranowsky's compositions belong in a McMillen game, with hard rock riffs and dramatic choirs composed to mimic the kitsch melodrama of blockbuster movies against a backdrop of flying meat cubes and buzz saws. Bad♥♥♥♥♥ to say the least. Awesome soundtrack, check.There's also a ton of content in the game that will definitely keep you busy, with over 300 levels divided across seven worlds (and their darker counterparts, providing an even harder challenge for harder players) and 25 characters, many of which must be earned and all of which are uniquely designed to enable players to replay the game differently. For fifteen bucks, I would say this game is a steal. On top of all that, you can edit, publish, and play levels of your own or of others around the world. Tons of content for sure.I will say, the visuals aren't the strongest part of the game. Most of the cutscenes are wrought in the archaic Flash program, and thus are very simple in their rednering and animation. However, Edmund makes good use of the medium to convey a queerily whimsical world through bouncy styles and thick, cutesy linework. Decent visuals, sure.The story isn't much to remember honestly. It's a classic damsel-in-distress type of story that has hit its peak in interest eons ago. That said, it's wrought through such ridiculous renderings and strange characters that the experience is still somewhat of a novelty. Some would argue it's a parody of that classic plot trope, but I would not. In any case, you won't be playing this for the story, and it isn't like it will turn you off. Quite the opposite actually. Okay story, yeah.But overall, this game is well worth the fifteen bucks and more. I also really suggest purchasing the soundtrack, it's too excellent to not add to your video game soundtrack playlist. Five out of five chicken nuggets.. fun gaem 420/69. Simple mechanics, hard game. Very enjoyable. And i mean -95% off? You don't even have to think about it!. I can't just beat this meat.. One of the best platformers ever made. With very tight controls, clever level design and a great, unique art style, this is a game you have to play.
